| The largest known meteorite in the world. It is of the iron type and weighs about 55,000 kilograms. It is still at its impact site in Namibia, where it was discovered in 1928. A layer of rusty weathered material surrounds the meteorite; when this weathering is accounted for, the original mass must have exceeded 73,000 kilograms. |
